Software Engineering Intern
Engineering · Internship · Remote
Description
Learn and contribute to full-stack development projects.
Internship structure and conversion path
Interns join sprint ceremonies, receive code review from senior engineers, and ship features to staging within the first month. High performers receive return offers for full-time roles. Previous interns have contributed to BhoomiChain citizen portals, SecureSign mobile flows, and internal MLOps tooling.
Interns document their first shipped feature in internal wiki pages — practising the documentation discipline expected on government and healthcare client programmes.
Life at Toolsbots Innovatix
We are a DPIIT-recognized product engineering company building GovTech, HealthTech, and enterprise AI platforms — BhoomiChain, SecureSign, Doctshub AI, NERTA, and SHAKTI. Engineers work on production systems used by millions of citizens and thousands of officers, not disposable agency websites. Squads practice two-week sprints, weekly demos, staging environments, and documentation discipline suitable for government and regulated clients.
Benefits and growth
Competitive compensation, flexible hybrid work across Kolkata and distributed India, learning budgets for conferences and certifications, and direct access to founders and architects on architecture decisions. We value engineers who care about compliance, accessibility, multilingual UX, and GEO-ready documentation — not only feature velocity.
Toolsbots is an equal opportunity employer. Apply with resume and portfolio links; we respond within five business days. Questions: careers@toolsbots.com · Learn about our work at Innovation Lab and case studies.
Interview and onboarding process
Our hiring process typically includes resume review, technical or portfolio deep-dive (60–90 minutes), culture and values conversation with team leads, and founder conversation for senior roles. We evaluate production impact, communication clarity, and alignment with compliance-minded engineering — not leetcode trivia alone. Onboarding pairs new hires with buddy engineers, documents architecture walkthroughs for active products, and assigns a first sprint ticket within week one.
Remote and hybrid policy
Most engineering roles support hybrid or remote work within India with periodic on-site workshops for government clients when required. We expect overlap with IST business hours for standups and stakeholder calls. Equipment and secure development environment setup guidance is provided on day one.
What we look for beyond résumés
We value engineers and researchers who have shipped production systems, written documentation others can follow, and collaborated with non-technical stakeholders — officers, clinicians, bankers, or founders. Open-source contributions, GovTech or HealthTech exposure, and comfort with compliance conversations (DPDP, RBI, ABDM) are strong positives. We do not require pedigree from specific colleges; we require evidence you can deliver audited, maintainable software under real-world constraints.
Internship and fellowship pathways
Interns and research fellows work on real backlog items with mentorship — not isolated toy projects. High performers receive return offers and published research support where appropriate. The Innovation Lab explores agentic AI, post-quantum cryptography, and digital public infrastructure — read research areas before applying to fellowship roles.
Compensation and performance review
Toolsbots reviews compensation annually based on market benchmarks, delivery impact, and leadership contributions. Bonuses may tie to programme milestones — successful go-lives, adoption metrics, or published research — not vanity feature counts. We discuss growth paths during hiring: individual contributor depth, tech lead, architect, or research leadership depending on role and interest.
Engineering standards you will practice
Every squad maintains staging environments, pull request review, automated tests where applicable, and documentation updates alongside code. Government and healthcare clients require audit trails, accessibility checks, and security review before production — practices you will use daily, not annual compliance theatre. We use Git, CI/CD pipelines, and incident retrospectives after production issues.
Diversity and inclusion
Toolsbots welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and regions of India. We evaluate skills, portfolio evidence, and communication clarity — not pedigree from specific institutions. Women and underrepresented groups in technology are encouraged to apply; we support flexible arrangements where role requirements permit.
How to apply and what to include
Email careers@toolsbots.com with role title in subject line, resume, GitHub or portfolio links, and two paragraphs on a production system you shipped — what problem it solved, your specific contribution, and what you would improve today. For research roles, include publications or preprints. We respond within five business days with next steps or thoughtful decline — no ghosting after technical interviews. Mention the role slug from this URL in your subject line so applications route quickly to the hiring manager.
Relocation and travel expectations
Most roles do not require relocation to Kolkata; periodic travel for client workshops or government deployments may be required for senior engineering and blockchain roles. Travel expenses for approved client visits follow company reimbursement policy discussed during offer stage.
